With Bluetooth® monitoring, outstanding performance characteristics and full international certification, you’ll never be caught short of 12v power on your 4wding and camping adventures again! Best of all, we’ve packed 135Ah of usable power into a standard Group 27 (N70) size case, meaning they are compatible with standard-sized battery boxes and trays. These batteries are made using best-in-class robotic manufacturing processes with rigorous quality assurance (including serialised tracking) and pre-shipment cycle testing. We even store the test report for each battery for later reference if needed. That’s why we can now confidently offer you a 5-year Australian warranty. Top-quality cells Our 135AH deep-cycle lithium batteries are constructed from the highest quality 26700 high-discharge cylindrical cells. The cells are carefully matched to ensure the difference in internal resistance is less than 1mΩ and voltage difference is less than 5mV. They are then ultrasonically welded using automated equipment to ensure a strong connection is made between each cell, and encased in custom-molded ABS plastic cell holders to ensure reliability and consistency even when subjected to shock and vibration. Wait… aren’t prismatic cells better? Prismatic and cylindrical cells both have inherent advantages and disadvantages. Batteries which use prismatic cells are somewhat lighter than those with cylindrical cells, and are easier to manufacture due to having fewer connections between cells. Cylindrical cells, on the other hand, are usually more efficient in their energy usage, produce somewhat less heat and tend to be more reliable than their prismatic counterparts. The improved cell reliability and efficiency of cylindrical cells are what made us decide, like Tesla and Rivian, to manufacture these batteries from cylindrical cells. Our lithium batteries have been certified as meeting all required and optional international standards for performance and safety, including: UN 38.3: Safety testing of lithium metal / lithium ion batteries in transport UL 1642: Performance/quality testing to guard against risk of fire or explosion IEC 62133-2:2017: Safety testing of portable lithium batteries under intended use and reasonably foreseeable misuse (including vibration test) IEC 62619:2017: Safety testing of lithium batteries for industrial use CE: The batteries meet EU safety, health and environmental protection requirements In addition, our manufacturing facility has been certified in accordance with the following international standards: ISO 9001: Ensures quality management systems have been implemented ISO 14001: Ensures environmental management systems have been implemented 2. More usable power, longer life

When comparing batteries it is vitally important to understand the difference between nominal and C20 capacity. To reduce confusion and help to standardise the measurement of battery capacity, most reputable battery manufacturers will quote the capacity of their battery in amp-hours at C20 (also written as C/20), which means the number of amps the battery can deliver if discharged at a constant rate over a period of 20 hours. Using this standard, a fully-charged battery with a capacity of 100Ah could deliver 5A of current per hour for a period of 20 hours before becoming fully discharged (5A x 20h).

Some disreputable manufacturers, however, will advertise the nominal capacity of their batteries and bury the C20 rating in the fine print. Nominal capacity has no practical application and can be up to 20% higher than the C20 rating, so a battery that is advertised as a 120Ah battery might only be able to deliver 105Ah or even less.

We value our good reputation, and will always quote the C20 rating as the battery’s capacity. This means you can be confident that the power we say our batteries can deliver is not inflated to mislead, create confusion or invite unfair comparisons.

Why upgrade to lithium?

  • Long cycle life: lasts up to 10x longer than Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries
  • More usable capacity: safely use up to 70% of usable capacity and 99% in an emergency (vs 50%/70% for SLA)
  • Light weight: About half the weight of an equivalent SLA battery
  • Environmentally friendly: Non-toxic, contains no acid, can be installed in any direction

Handy remote reset switch

The Battery Management System (BMS) inside all lithium batteries contains a protection circuit which trips if the voltage drops below a certain setpoint. In the case of Hardkorr batteries, it is set at 10.0V. This circuit prevents damage to the battery by putting it into a ‘sleep’ mode until it is reset.

In the past, resetting the battery after the over-discharge protection was activated was not easy. Whilst some battery chargers do contain a “wake-up” function, most people had to resort to applying a constant voltage above 12V across the terminals using jumper leads or home-made wires. This was fraught with danger; damage to appliances or the battery were not uncommon.

Our batteries provide an easy solution to this problem; simply connect our included remote reset switch to the socket on the top face of the battery and hold down the button for 5 seconds, and the over-discharge circuit will reset itself. The button can also be flush-mounted into your 12v setup if desired.

EASY DUAL BATTERY SETUP

Using a battery box combined with a VSR is the easiest way to create a dual battery setup in your vehicle.

The VSR acts as an isolator, allowing the auxiliary battery (inside the box) to charge directly from the crank battery while the car is running. When the ignition is switched off and battery voltage drops below 12.7V, the VSR automatically cuts the link between the auxiliary and crank batteries.

1680D ballistic nylon canvas

The outside of your solar panel and the carry bag are going to be exposed to heaps of scrapes and bumps over the years, and the canvas used to make them needs to be strong enough to handle it. For our heavy-duty solar mats we’ve specified the toughest material we could find, called 1680D Ballistic Nylon.

This heavyweight polyurethane-coated synthetic canvas was originally designed by DuPont Corporation for use by the United States military, and got the name ‘ballistic’ because it was most commonly found in anti-fragmentation ballistic jackets, before the invention of Kevlar. Nowadays it is primarily used to protect high-wear areas on products such as motorcycle gear and luggage.

Not only is 1680D Ballistic Nylon highly abrasion-resistant, it is also water-repellent. Whilst we don’t recommend you intentionally leave the panels out in a prolonged heavy downpour, they are IP64 waterproof and will not be damaged from exposure to rain.

Lithium-compatible smart regulator

This product comes bundled with our smart solar regulator.

This regulator will optimally charge a range of battery types, including AGM, Gel, Calcium, Wet and all lithium variants. It contains a host of smart electronics including reverse polarity protection, short circuit protection, reverse current protection, overcharge protection and more.

Its large, backlit LCD screen provides useful information relating to power input and battery charge level, and inbuilt LEDs provide a quick-reference indicator of battery charge status.

It is also the first solar regulator to have the ability to automatically ‘wake up’ a lithium that has been put into sleep mode after the over-discharge protection circuit has been tripped. Simply connect the regulator to the battery and it will deliver special small-current pulses until the battery has recovered enough to be charged normally.

The Crocskin® difference

Sitting under the baking hot sun for many hours at a time means solar mats are exposed to large quantities of ultraviolet light and generate a significant amount of heat every time they are used. The materials used in the construction of the mat must be resistant to both, as well as being flexible and impact resistant.

Our exclusive Crocskin® cell armour coating has been specifically designed with this in mind. It provides an excellent protective barrier to the solar cells, increasing their durability and lifespan.

In fact, our Crocskin® coating showed no signs of deterioration after an accelerated weathering test that simulated 30 years’ sun exposure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What separates a Hard Korr® folding solar mat from cheaper models?

Mostly it comes down to quality of materials and manufacturing. We specify certified A-grade monocrystalline solar cells for optimum efficiency and lifespan, solid copper cell backing with 20 points of contact, extra-tough 1680D canvas and exclusive Crocskin® armour coating for durability. Our panels are manufactured to a very high standard including strong stitching and careful wiring. That’s why we are able to offer a long 3-year warranty!

Do I have to use the included controller?

You must always use a controller between the solar panel and your battery, but if you have your own solar controller (e.g. built into a camper trailer or RV) you can use that instead. We include an Anderson plug connector in the box.

How do I position my solar mat?

You can place your solar mat anywhere it receives direct sunlight. This might be on your windscreen or bonnet, on top of your awning, on your roof rack, or on the ground using the inbuilt legs. You will experience a moderate increase in output if you are able to angle the panels 30-45° to the sun.

If one cell is shaded or blocked, does the whole panel stop producing electricity?

No. Our mat is designed with bypass diodes to ensure that if one cell is not producing power the rest of the cells are unaffected. This is another difference between a Hard Korr panel and cheaper models.

Can I leave my mat out in the weather?

Yes, Hard Korr solar mats are designed to withstand rain and even hail. However, your panel will not generally produce much electricity during inclement weather so we recommend you bring it inside at these times. If your solar mat gets wet, please ensure it is thoroughly dried prior to storage.

Which panel do I need for my setup?

Start by finding out the total current draw of all the equipment you wish to use. Multiply this figure by the number of hours the equipment is generally used to get the total amp hours consumed. Solar panels can generally provide their stated output for 8 hours per day, so multiply the stated output by 8 hours to find out how many amp hours your solar mat can provide. Here’s a worked example:

You use a Hard Korr 5-bar camp kit for 4 hours per day (3A x 4h = 12Ah)
You use a fridge for 24 hours per day that draws 1.5A per hour (1.5A x 24h = 36Ah)
Total consumption = 48Ah
Add 25% buffer = 48 x 1.25 = 60Ah
Solar panel output required = 60Ah / 8 = 7.5A
Hard Korr’s 150w portable solar panel produces up to 8.33A per hour on a clear day and will be sufficient in these circumstances.
